What makes Migraine Escape® Magnesium different?

Migraine Escape® Magnesium is the result of our extensive research into the topic of magnesium and migraines. It is specially formulated to provide the most effective and absorbable magnesium supplement for migraine sufferers.

Our magnesium is naturally-sourced picometre ionic magnesium chloride blended with pharmaceutical-quality distilled water, allowing for maximum absorption by the body’s cells and limited laxative effect.

This means you can be confident that supplementing with Migraine Escape® Magnesium is actually giving your body the nourishment it needs for better health and migraine protection.

On top of that, we wanted to go the extra mile for the planet and our customers’ wellbeing. That is why Migraine Escape® Magnesium comes in eco-friendly glass bottles that do not leak toxins like plastic bottles do.

Your magnesium deficiency is filling up your migraine bucket

At least 1 in every 2 migraine sufferers is magnesium deficient* and there is a good chance it is playing a key role in your migraines.

That is because magnesium is like water - a fuel that powers your body and its many processes. And that is why a lack of this mineral is linked to migraines in many ways, namely:

What is my migraine bucket?
We use the migraine bucket analogy to understand how migraine is not caused by a single issue, but rather many different factors combined together. Each contributing factor takes up space in your migraine bucket. As your bucket fills up and reaches the top, even the smallest trigger can be enough to tip you over the edge and into a migraine.

When excess levels of calcium (e.g. from dairy) and glutamate (e.g. from processed foods) enter our brain cells they wreak havoc, causing cell damage that makes us more susceptible to migraine attacks. Magnesium helps to prevent excess calcium and glutamate from destroying the brain cells, making it like a protective coat of armour against brain cell damage and migraines.

Chronic inflammation is possibly the most important contributing factor to most people’s migraines. Common causes are certain foods (e.g. grains, beans, processed foods), stress and chemicals in your daily environment. Not only does magnesium counter the inflammatory process, magnesium deficiency is shown to let inflammation run wild inside us, keeping your migraine bucket filled up.

Serotonin instability plays a role in many migraines, headaches and depression. That’s why common migraine drugs like the triptans family work by blocking the depletion of serotonin from the cells. Magnesium performs the same function as triptans, yet it’s natural, safe and doesn’t cause rebound headaches!

Stress and bad sleep are common issues that lead to chronic inflammation, making them common culprits in migraine. Because magnesium keeps our cells charged with energy, one of the most well-known benefits of magnesium is better sleep and feeling more relaxed overall. Magnesium can make a big difference on migraine health through its effect on sleep and mood alone.

Each of the above can take up a lot of space in your migraine bucket. A lack of magnesium intensifies their impact, increasing the risk of migraines.

That’s why eliminating magnesium deficiency is correlated to a long-term reduction in both the frequency and intensity of migraines*.

"I've tried magnesium supplements before and they didn't help!"

Feel familiar? We hear this often talking to migraine sufferers. And it’s almost certainly due to the poor absorption rates of the type of magnesium you were taking.

There are many, many different types of magnesium and only a small few are easily absorbed by the human body, despite what’s claimed on the bottle. This is usually because the magnesium is not ionised, while the molecules are often too large in size to pass easily through the walls of the small intestine. This means only a small portion of the mineral is actually available for use by the body.

For some types of magnesium - like magnesium oxide - as little as 4% is absorbed! Many types, even in small amounts induce diarrhoea. And a couple of types (e.g. magnesium glutamate) may even contribute to neurotoxicity and may make users more susceptible to migraines!

The beauty of Migraine Escape® picometre ionic magnesium chloride is that it is already ionised, and in magnesium’s tiniest form, allowing it to be absorbed quickly through the digestive system walls, penetrate the cells and get to work where the body needs it. This is why we recommend it for migraine sufferers and for improved health in general.

Taking magnesium tablets?

Supplementing with magnesium in tablet form can be even more hit and miss, because the amount of actual magnesium in the tablet is usually a fraction of the compound it is bound to.

For example, in a 400 mg tablet of magnesium gluconate the actual amount of magnesium (called elemental magnesium) was found to be 5%, so only 20 mg. The rest is the gluconate bit.

In all cases, absolutely avoid magnesium aspartate and magnesium glutamate, as these components lead to overstimulation of the neurons and brain cell death, which some doctors say can increase risk of migraine, stroke, seizure and epilepsy.

Why Migraine Escape® Magnesium delivers maximum absorption

Picometre means a trillionth of a metre, whereas human cells are ‘microns’ or millionths of a metre. Migraine Escape® Magnesium is 150 picometres in size - being so much smaller than human cells, it can easily pass through cell walls to be readily absorbed by the body.

To make magnesium most available to the cells of the body it has to be made into ions. Virtually all other forms of magnesium supplements need to be broken down in your digestive tract by your gastric acids and made into the highly bioactive form - magnesium ions. This takes time and energy and in the process much is excreted through the bowels. Migraine Escape® Magnesium is already ionised, allowing it to be absorbed rapidly into the cells in very high concentrations.

Magnesium chloride

Migraine Escape® Magnesium is ionised magnesium chloride, which means it can actually fast track absorption by helping to create digestive juices in the stomach and intestines. Other types need to use the stomach’s existing acids and are therefore less absorbed and at slower rates.

Picometre also means lower laxative effect

Pico-sized molecules means Migraine Escape® Magnesium has a lower laxative effect than other forms.

When the gut reaches its limit of magnesium it expels the surplus magnesium through the bowels (i.e. diarrhoea). With larger magnesium molecules, this process is triggered at lower overall levels of magnesium.

This means you can address magnesium deficiency with Migraine Escape® Magnesium with a higher degree of comfort.

Migraine Escape Magnesium

As nature intended

Many magnesium manufacturers formulate their product on price alone. They add the cheapest forms of magnesium, which often come as a byproduct of heavy industry and are not optimised for absorption by the human body. Many also use plastic bottles that can leak toxins, another contributing factor to the migraine bucket.

Supplied in eco-friendly recyclable glass bottles, Migraine Escape® Magnesium is sourced from one the world’s purest natural sources of magnesium chloride - the ancient salt deposits of Lake Deborah, deep in the heart of the Australian desert.

Tested for quality

We put the health and safety of our customers first, with the highest standards of quality control.

That’s why Migraine Escape® Magnesium has been tested by the Australian Government’s National Measurement Institute to ensure it contains no dangerous heavy metals or toxic substances.

The results show that Migraine Escape® Magnesium is as nature intended - magnesium chloride in its natural form along with minor traces of naturally-occurring elements from the source deposits, all well within recommended government guidelines.

We think it's important you know what you're consuming. View our independent lab results below.

What can I expect from using Migraine Escape® Magnesium?

Consuming sufficient quantities of Migraine Escape® Magnesium on a daily basis is a great way to eliminate your magnesium deficiency and boost your migraine defence and overall wellbeing.

It typically takes 3-12 months to reduce your magnesium deficiency to the point where you feel significant benefits. However, some people report positive symptoms sooner.

Signs that indicate magnesium supplementation is taking effect include:

  • Better sleep
  • Generally feeling more relaxed and less stressed
  • Fewer migraines and headaches - and less intense when they come
  • Improved muscle recovery from exercise
  • Improved recovery from injury
  • Improved energy levels and mood

For migraine sufferers, sufficient magnesium supplementation is associated with a long-term reduction in migraine attacks.
Better sleep, reduced stress levels and better mental state caused by sufficient magnesium intake alone should make a big contribution to draining your migraine bucket, not to mention magnesium's direct role in disrupting migraine pathophysiology.
As always, remember that migraines are multi-causal, so magnesium supplementation is associated with the best results when you also reduce other contributing factors, such as lifestyle and diet issues.
Migraine Escape Magnesium

I was given Migraine Escape Magnesium to try without being told what benefits I could expect. After 3 weeks, I was sleeping so much better, therefore I was waking up feeling more refreshed and relaxed in myself. I seemed to be getting through the day less stressed and less upset when things went wrong. I wondered if it was the magnesium I was adding to my morning coffee and my water bottle I took with me for the day and decided it was definitely a “Yeah, Nah” situation. Yeah, something was making a difference on my life but Nah...a couple of drops of this magnesium stuff cannot be that good.

When I saw Michael and he asked me “was I sleeping better and feeling less stressed?”, I could not believe that something so simple and easy could have such a profound impact on my life. I haven’t felt this good in 30 plus years.

How much do I need to use and how often?

We need to replenish our bodies’ magnesium stocks every day.

Traditionally we could do this simply through the foods we eat, but modern diets, processed foods and industrial agriculture have reduced the amount of magnesium we get from our daily meals.

The amount you supplement should cover this daily dietary shortfall, plus additional amounts to reduce any existing magnesium deficiency. It can take several months to a year of magnesium supplementation to fully restore your magnesium levels, after which you can reduce your daily dose down to the gap left by your diet.

One 100ml bottle of Migraine Escape® Magnesium should cover the average person for approximately 1 month of daily magnesium supplementation.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. Magnesium is generally well tolerated when used in appropriate doses. Some clinical research shows no differences in adverse effects between placebo and magnesium groups. Orally, magnesium can cause gastrointestinal irritation, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhoea. To limit these effects, oral doses should be small and spaced throughout the day.+

Anyone with kidney defects should not supplement magnesium unless under the supervision of a doctor.

+ Philip J. Gregory, PharmD, MS, FACN - Editor-in-Chief. Natural Medicines - Professional - Magnesium. Stockton, CA 95219 USA : Therapeutic Research Center.

Laxative effect. The body has a natural self-regulating mechanism when it comes to magnesium, and excretes excess through the faeces that it cannot absorb. This is different to calcium and other chemicals, where excess levels stay in the body and cause damage internally.

Add Migraine Escape® Magnesium to water, juice, hot or cold teas, a fruit or vegetable smoothie, or a protein shake. It has a very bitter taste if you drink it straight!

Consume daily and in small doses, spaced throughout the day.

You want to supplement enough magnesium each day to account for any existing magnesium deficiency plus the daily shortfall left by your diet.

We estimate one bottle covers the average person for approximately 1 months of magnesium supplementation. As you use the product and establish your tolerance and preferred dosage levels, it will become clearer how much each bottle lasts you personally. Over time as your magnesium deficiency reduces, you can reduce your daily dose down to the amount that covers your dietary gap.

Topical application. Evidence suggests that spraying magnesium oil on your body is highly effective and reduces some of the adverse effects of oral magnesium by bypassing the digestive tract. We recommend you dilute Migraine Escape® Magnesium with equal parts of steam distilled water and apply as a spray.

Please note - Migraine Escape® Magnesium will soon be available as a topical spray application in a 250ml bottle.

Modern diets, processed foods and industrial agriculture have reduced the amount of magnesium we get from our daily meals. Also the fact that most municipal water suppliers now reduce the ‘hardness’ of water, which involves filtering out the minerals that may be naturally in it.

Meanwhile, many aspects of modern lifestyle causes us to use up a lot magnesium. For example, people who are: under stress; fatigued; exercise and/or sweat a lot; are exposed to continuous loud noise for long periods; drink high amounts of alcohol or sodas; drink high amounts of caffeine; ingest a lot of sugars and artificial sweeteners; take certain drugs.

There are about 100 health symptoms of a magnesium deficiency in your body. Classic symptoms are muscle cramps, arrhythmia, adrenal fatigue, cravings for alcohol, carbohydrates, junk food, coffee, sugar, chocolates; depression, cold extremities; eye twitching, depression, fibromyalgia, high cholesterol, hypertension (high blood pressure) insulin resistance, kidney stones, menstrual cramps and pains, headaches and migraines, paranoia, numbness of the hands and feet, pins and needles, mood swings, twitching, tremors, tetany, stroke, seizures and convulsions and many others.

You can also get a red blood cell test from your doctor, but these are not highly accurate.

Anyone suffering from the symptoms listed above may find it beneficial to consider supplementing with Migraine Escape® Magnesium, migraine sufferer or not.

There are many reasons. Magnesium is involved in 700 enzymatic processes in the body and is extremely important in providing the body’s energy.

It also controls calcium in the body, and is nature’s calcium channel blocker. When excess calcium floods the brain magnesium which normally guards certain brain cell receptors, becomes overwhelmed and is unable to regulate high amounts of calcium flooding the brain cells. This causes so much stimulation that the brain cells become over excited and can be killed. This can lead to headache, migraine, aura, stroke, epilepsy and seizure.

Magnesium deficiency also leads to subclinical inflammation which releases chemicals in the body that, if in excess, can trigger migraines. Also for the approximately 15% of people who are genetically predisposed to being sensitive to glutamates, when they ingest high levels of foods with glutamate - like wheat, corn, barley, grains, MSG, the brain becomes highly charged and the magnesium is unable to regulate the flow of calcium into the neurons.

Magnesium sulfate injection is reported as an acute migraine treatment, with as many as 85% of patients responding favourably.

A major reason is that there is no cheap, easy and reliable way to accurately record one’s magnesium levels, so in general doctors cannot precisely diagnose magnesium deficiency or subsequently prescribe remedial action for it. For example, by taking a blood test doctors can get a reading of your serum magnesium levels, but these may not reflect your body’s actual levels of magnesium. One reason for this is that when the body needs magnesium it will grab it from the bone and tissue and then pump it into the bloodstream so that it gets delivered to where it is needed.

A study in the British Medical Journal in 2018+ explains that not only is the diet of most of the world’s population deficient in magnesium, but that this constitutes a public health crisis. This realisation and attitude is slowly being accepted by many members of the medical community.

+ Subclinical magnesium deficiency: a principal driver of cardiovascular disease and a public health crisis. Each person is different and may be deficient in other nutrients. Magnesium deficiency is extremely common but is not widely publicised. In recent decades the dairy industry and many health professionals have promoted high calcium intake to strengthen the bones. Nevertheless, Dr Colin Campbell in his book ‘The China Study’ reports that the countries with the highest dairy consumption suffer the highest rates of osteoporosis and brittle bones.

Migraine Escape® Magnesium is picometre ionic magnesium chloride, which is extremely small in size and is already ionised. This means that the body does not have to carry out the work of breaking down the magnesium compound into ions, which is the most bioactive form of magnesium. As it is so small in this form, it absorbs quickly through the walls of the digestive tract, and is less prone to causing a laxative effect.
