What is ginger?
Migraine Escape® is a pure ginger extract. This means it is a complete biological representation of ginger, meaning not a single component has been lost in the extraction process. When we look at the pain relief and migraine fighting properties of Migraine Escape®, we only need to look so far as the ginger plant itself.
A common household food ingredient, ginger (latin: Zingiber officinale Roscoe, Zingiberaceae) has long been purported to exert a variety of powerful therapeutic and preventive effects. For thousands of years it has been used for the treatment of numerous ailments, such as colds, nausea, arthritis, migraines, and hypertension.
India and China are believed to have produced ginger as a tonic root for over 5,000 years. It was an exceedingly important article of trade and was exported from India to the Roman Empire over 2,000 years ago, where it was especially valued for its medicinal properties. Ginger continued to be a highly sought after commodity in Europe even after the fall of the Roman Empire, with Arab merchants controlling the trade in ginger and other spices for centuries. In the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries, the value of a pound of ginger was equivalent to the cost of a sheep. By medieval times, it was being imported in preserved form to be used in sweets. Queen Elizabeth I of England is credited with the invention of the gingerbread man, which became a popular Christmas treat.
Innovative Herbal Products became interested in pursuing ginger as a solution for treating migraines after reviewing scientific reports that reported it to be useful in combating neurological disorders, as the administration of ginger exerted abortive and prophylactic effects in migraine headache without any side-effects.
Our research and development was centred on creating an extract that had the balanced properties of both the volatile and non-volatile components of the ginger plant itself, thereby maximising the phytochemical compounds available.
From analysis of all the research documents we have gathered over the past few years, it would appear reasonable to conclude that the synergistic benefits of ginger’s properties - namely anti-inflammatory, anti-nociceptive, antioxidant and neuroprotective effects - in a highly concentrated topical application are responsible for the efficacy of Migraine Escape®.
Migraine Escape® is manufactured from high quality Australia Queensland variety ginger which during our research and development exhibited more effective and potent qualities than other imported varieties.
As most phytotherapeutic studies have centred on ethnomedicines from other parts of the world (particularly Ayurvedic medicinal plants from India, Chinese traditional medicinal plants and African ethnobotanicals), Australian plants remain relatively unstudied. Given the unique nature of many Australian plants and the diverse and often harsh conditions in which they grow, it has likely resulted in Australian plants producing unique phytochemical protective mechanisms that may harbour new therapeutic agents. If so these plants provide the starting point for the development of novel drugs, of which Migraine Escape® is the first.
Ginger is one of nature’s most extraordinary drugs which has been overlooked by big pharmaceutical companies. IHP’s approach to treating pain with Migraine Escape® has created optimism towards the novel therapeutic strategy of embracing what mother nature has to offer.
